New book... new country

Having finished my last romance (writing as Diana Fraser), I can now move on to writing the book I’ve been researching for what seems like forever.* The Secret of the Greek House is a dual-timeline (what else for me?) book set on the Greek island of Syros.

Now, Ermoupoli (the capital of Syros) is an amazing city of neoclassical mansions, tavernas, museums, beaches, with a rich history. It’s a wonderful place which I’ve been lucky enough to visit twice before. This year, we’re going for three months over the summer of 2026 and I can’t wait.

It won’t be all about enjoying visiting family (including our daughter) and friends. (Although there will be a lot of that.) I’ll also be writing my first dual-timeline book set outside of New Zealand. Having a love for secrets and houses, what better than to combine these with one of Ermoupoli’s grand mansions? As well as a present-day architect who travels to the island to work on the mansion, the book covers the severe hardship suffered by the population of the island during World War II. There will be secrets and drama; there will be fantastic settings; and there will be as much love and happiness as I can find in the story.

*For sharp-eyed readers, you may have noticed the disappearance from my website of ‘The Russian Girl’ – a dual timeline novel set between Russia and 1930s New Zealand. It’s gone, but not forgotten. And will be written as soon as my obsession with my Greek book has left me :)
